    Default Trophy commission

    Hello,
Just back from the shed finishing off a commission to design and produce trophies for an annual corporate awards night. Its about the third job likes this I've had, and lean towards using laser cut stainless steel, sometimes with timber bases. I like the slick product, and the transition from sketch to CAD to cut item is so easy.
This one is simply 2.5mm stainless laser cut to my design then folded or pressed to form the base. I get the roughed items and file them smooth (the open parts tend to have a few dags) before a series of Scotchbrite mops on the buffer.
This photo is at that stage, now they head off to the sandblaster/engraver for logos, text inc. winners' names to be added. I'll add a few adhesive buttons under them before handing over to the client.

    Cheers
    Andy Mac

    Hi Andy,

Nice work, and very eye catching design, should look good proudly displayed on someone's mantle piece. Those sort of projects are often the hardest, because the fit and finish has to be just so.. stainless is a good choice too...

When they get sand blasted, I'm guessing that parts will be masked off and the engraving will be on the polished sections?

    Regards
    Ray

Hopefully they don't get blasted enough to distort. Looks good!

Oh, before I forget, you may need to passivate the stainless with nitric acid to prevent any brown tarnishing or suntan from forming, it makes the stainless less grey and more silver too after a blasting.
