I have made a couple of SS rings, that always gets girls attention when the wife mention it to her friends. Trouble is they not interested in what made machine them, they just want one.
Rings could be a good point for someone to use on there wife to buy a lathe, then a mill so detail work can be done on them.lol

I think it depends on the individual persons interest and has very little to do with professions. My accountant BIL is always interested in what I'm up to in my shed. Even amongst ourselves our interests differ considerably. I know people who are into metal work and glaze over as soon as I mention wood work. A wood worker I know glazes over when I talk about making tools and jigs - he said, "What's the big deal, haven't you heard about bunnings?". I certainly glaze over when pen makers start talking . . .
