Twist lock segmented v belt
To avoid having to dismantle the headstock I would like to get my hands on a section of this twist lock v belt, but it only seems available from the US in large quantity.
Is anyone aware of it being available for purchase in Aus ??

My local bearing shop had it. The guy assured me "you'll #### yourself at the price". I didn't enquire further. The place has changed hands now and I don't know if they still have it. But it's around.

Expensive, yes, but does it help all sorts of machines run stronger and minimises vibration, yes.
In my experience as a woody that has second hand machinery, the improvement is noticeable.
So for me it was worth the short term hit to the pocket every once in a while over several years, as I got my machines over a span of 5 years.Pat

Hi Tom, this belt is available from this eBay seller in various lengths ranging from one foot to at least ten metres, he posts worldwide, and may be able to provide what you want without it being much more than you need. He is just the first one I came across, there may be many others, some cheaper too perhaps, but this will give you a start maybe. Let us all know how you go, good luck,
Rob.

Tom,
Not sure which part of Perth you are in, but try Transeals in Welshpool they used to carry it, think they still do. Other one is Atom Supply also in Welshpool.

Link belt it used to be called here. Some older cars of the 30's had it as a stock item and old garages use to stock it as to avoid stocking large supplies of belt sizes.also radiator hoses of the elephant trunk flexi hoses expensive but get you out of a spot.
Link belt is available here in Victoria from various industrial suppliers but yes the price has escalated.

Modern link belt is nothing like the old stuff, which was made out of compacted canvas or some such.
The modern generation is a type of red poly block and is as tough as old boots. It will basically out last a metal pulley, can take at least 25% greater shock loading than the best regular "V" belt and is almost impervious to dust, grit, grindings etc.
That's why the mining industry use them on crushers etc.
Not cheap, but worth every cent.
I bought some and used it on a wood chipper, which gave it a real workout, but it just shrugged it off (regular belts self destructed after a few hours). Can't remember where I got it from, but it could have been CBC Australia.
Mighty tough stuff.

Hi WwF,
The belt on my Table Saw is gone. I was thinking of getting me of these and was hoping for an update on if people still believe they are worth the extra $$$ and where in Sydney I can pick one up this weekend. ( CatbaTec want $85for theirs so trying really hard to avoid a Carbatec purchase)

Just make sure you have adequate clearance to run the belt as they need more room where they bend - the blocks tend to stick out at an angle.
Also you can't run an idler tensioner against the back of them.
Getting them off Ebay or the net is going to be the cheapest.
I remember it was expensive when I bought it locally - pre internet.
It never wears out and can be changed to fit anything, so it's good value even at that price.
RobThe worst that can happen is you will fail.
But at least you tried.
