uni mig overheating
I have a unimig procraft series 210.I use gasles wire jumping negative earth positive.I had not used it for about 6 months.I was welding up some shelves the other day on a 5 setting for amp-age ? It was cutting out on thermal after 5 or so minutes and would have to cool for 30 or so minutes before it would go again. So my question is how do I know if the fan or circut board are faulty.Because I dont use it regularly I cant remember if the fan only comes on when hot or on all the time. When I used it the other day it sounded like the fan was not coming on at all.

The fan should be going ALL the time, that's why it's overheating. Probably a wire has either broken or come adrift. If you put this into the welding section you might get more replies!!!!

Hi Derek
The welders I have the fan comes on only when hot. Controlled by a thermal switch mounted on transformer or driver heatsink. You do not say how old. The older transformer types (heavy) can develop shorted turns in transformer or partially failed rectifiers and will over heat quickly. The newer switch mode type (lighter) usually have protection circuits to shut down when switching transistors (mosfets or Igbt) go faulty.
See if can get a circuit diagram. If you are not familiar with high voltage devices then may be safer to find some one who is and has the tools too.
It may just be fan or switch or ....

I have a Uni-Mig 210 and the fan should be on all the time, So either the fan is stuffed or the wiring needs attention.
