Well how long do recall notices take then?

Mapp gas has not been made in Yankee land for a couple of years now.

I did post about this hazard in October this year.

It would appear that most cylinders in this country has been sold and consumed before the Oz notice appeared to protect us all.

It make one wonder what the process is.

Have we had incidents with Mapp gas here, recently in Oz or has our lumbering bureaucracy just got a round to noticing there was a problem overseas.

Perhaps the same mob might get around to noticing there is a problem with tradies carrying acetylene cylinders in enclosed vans - 2 incidents in a month of each other.

    Maybe they read our Forum.

That recall is about something different to your post Grahame.

As I understand it. Tradies should know that they aren't allowed to carry flammable gas in an enclosed vehicle, unless its in an approved enclosure.(except BBQ gas) Though this maybe a state to state thing.

correct Stuart..yes it is state to state thing
In SA there is no requirement to have a sealed enclosure in a van & which is vented to the outside...it is some other states tho..not sure which

and map gas as you call it Grahame is no different to Map//Pro from Rothenberger and others which still comes into the Aus in this container...

"Have we had incidents with Mapp gas here recently..." not sure what the cause was for the frigie who was killed in Melbourne a week or so back....TV footage didnt show or indicate it was acetelyne as from what I saw it appeared that there was a cylinder or remnants thereof adjacent the acet bottle. I am not sure as to what I actualy saw...but the acet bottle appeared in one piece..the other didnt...was it a flamable refrigerant or LPG...does anyone know?

also isnt the cause/fault different to what you posted Grahame?

    Default UPDATE brazing torch recall

They are now recalling all cylinders purchased prior to January 15th 2012

    includes all the following makes

    Worhtington,
    Rothenberger
    Turbo Torch
    Magna,
    Lenox
    Ace
    Bernzomatic
    Uniweld
    Craftsman
    Goss
    Super Ego
    Castolin
    Nevax
    Bromix
    Ameriflame
    Hotery
    Go System
    Turner

The cylinders are Black or Yellow in clour

If your cylinders have a black or white diamond on the top shoulder they were produced after 12th Jan 2012 and are not in the recall.

There is no suggestion that the recall is connected with the death of two technicians at the start of the year.

If you have any 14.1 oz (400grams) Map Pro, propylene or a 16oz (450 Gram) Mapp cylinders it is sugetsed you retiurn them to your store of purchase..

If any are have their burner connected or have had the burners removed (it says), take them outside, connect the burner if neccessary and light them and let them burn of the contents until empty.

And either dispose of cylinder as per the instructions on the label or return to your store of purchase for a full refund.

Doesnt say if proof of purchase is neccessary, and as its an Aus wide recall i'd say it isnt.
