    Default Using dovetail cutters

    Hi all

Need advice. Do you use the outside diameter or the middle diameter for calculating cutting speed. Or isn't it that critical.

    Thanks

Always use the largest diameter of a cutter to calculate cutting speeds.

An adaption of Harold Hall's grinding rest. I made his boring head which came out pretty well. I cut the dovetails on it by mounting the job on a 60deg angle and used a 6mm end mill to cut the dovetail.

    Hi Mav,
Which one are you making? One of these days I hope to make one (or a cross between both) for sharpening milling cutters.

    eskimo,
Here are some pictures of the grinding rests, though nothing on his boring head.

Using the top of his grinding jig with a base that inclines 5 deg about the centreline. (Shars end mill grinding fixture inclines 2 deg about this axis)

    Photos supplied if successful
