Thanks for those photos. Can you post a picture so we can see what the finished grind looks like?

Magnetic parallels can be made like this. They don't hold quite as well as the laminated kind but will do the job in most cases and are simple to make. Drill/ream the holes and press fit ordinary dowel pins. You'll have to do a better job of nesting the holes. I did it rather quickly. You can even make a V block this way.

Back in post 1 I asked about grinding fixtures for the SG.
I eventually bought one of the ones I pictured and while playing with it today thought that it may be of interest to others.
Possibly the biggest problem I had was cutter length - fitting it under the grinder with the limited height I had was tricky but I managed it.
The cutter that I used was one that I'd done an RC on some time back. Totally stuffed, and as it was a new 5/8" cutter 5 minutes before being crunched I was not happy. The first step was to cut it back to full flutes with the angle grinder

Then it was a matter of setting it in the fixture. The collet chuck has 12 angular stops, so cutters with 2, 3 and 4 flutes can be sharpened.
The sequence seems to be to gash the end of the cutter with an angle grinder then grind the secondary relief as shown in the photo, leaving the primaries until last

I kept waiting for the fixture to go flying but it did not.
Here I've blued the secondary relief before grinding the primaries. As you can see, the facets are nice and even. They are also sharp - unlike the picture. The numerals on the collet are in focus, so why isn't the cutter in the photo?? Damn autofocus!.

Here's a finished part shot with the original tip that was cut off. Passes were 3 thou feed. I still haven't got the coolant sorted on the SG so probably need to get that going as I was getting the slightest hint of colour at the very tip of the edge. (Understandable - nowhere for the heat to go)

Still, it's salvaged a wrecked cutter so it can now be used to machine again and I have several cutters that could do with a touch up on the ends so worth considering I think

See you need a CBN wheel like I got...

Let's see - how can I put this delicately so I don't upset anyone?

    No

Used the resharpened one today. Cuts beautifully.
