Vertex dividing head BS0 Spindle nose and Hercus not the same?
I have just taken possession of a Vertex BS0 dividing head. It is supposed to be a 1½" x 8 Threads per inch spindle nose. It measures at 1½" x 8 t but my 3 Hercus 1½" x 8 backplates won't even make a full revolution before they get stuck. I don't believe I would be the first to have this problem since both bits of kit are so common in this country. I have two machines that these 3 chucks fit on so am somewhat surprised they don't fit the Vertex dividing head.
In fact the chuck that came with the DH will fit both the other machines. In an ideal world I would like all my chucks to be interchangeable so getting the DH's hardened shaft thread ground to suit the others seems my only choice. But before I does anybody know what is going on here?
