Yep
Yes that's correct Ray
I just read the horrible manual . I have PD001 and PD002 set on 0
To set the max and min speed ( freq.) , PD000 (the parameter lock) , has to be at 0
After you have set your max and min (PD005 and Pd007) , you go back and set PD000 to 1 , this locks the parameters , but it allows you to speed up/down with the arrows . YAY it all work now ..I've got it going up/down in RPM using the arrows

Hi Mike,
Getting there.
Whats the rpm on the motor? How many pole? Whats PD0143 set to?
I dont think you should have to set PD000=1 but if its working. Just remember you need to set it to 0 before you change anything.

Hi Mike,
I think you'll find that if PD143=4 then it be reading the rpm as 1/2. So 1400rpm on the vsd would be 2800rpm on the motor. So that means if you have run it up to 2800rpm on the VSD you're running the motor and the spindle at 5600rpm.
With any luck Ray will be able to comfirm this.

Hi Stuart,
Now there's a good question... I have no idea if the vfd makes any use of the number of poles, other than to correctly display the speed, once you set PD144...
The actual motor speed won't change by changing the number of poles on the vfd, it's the "real" number of poles in the motor itself, in combination with the frequency that determines the motor rpm.
But, does the number of poles ever get used in a V/F drive? Don't know.. Other than rpm display of course...
Regards
Ray
EDIT.. It's a question that never comes up, you always just set the number of poles to match the motor nameplate or figure it out from the base rpm.

Ok back from the shed.
PD143 doesnt seem to do anything(hey it was a quick test of one thing ok!)
PD144 sets the rpm the VSD displays when the VSD is running at the base freq(well at least changing it to 2800 changed the rpm displayed to 2800, I didnt try changing the base freq)
So as I understand it, with the default setting on the VSD 1440(mine infact defaults to 1430) if Mike runs the VSD up to 2800 then motor and spindle will be doing 5600rpm.

Hi Stuart,
Yes, correct, if you run a 2 pole motor at 100 Hz it will be (120*100/2)=6000 rpm no load, more like 5800 or so allowing for 2% slip under load.
But changing PD144 and PD143, just changes the displayed RPM (not 100% sure about that, it might be changing some other things like subtle timing calculations, but not major stuff) . I guess it depends on whether Mike is going by the displayed rpm or setting the frequency...

Ok
I will solve this rpm dilemma by sticking a little bit of reflective tape on the spindle and pointing the tacho at it .
back in 10 mins ....MIKE

Bloody hell
hey
You guys are 100% right ..the damn thing was indicating X 1/2 the actual speed .... My god, just as well you pointed me to the correct direction I could have had a nasty exploding wheel
I've noticed the voltage is set to 220 at the facctory , should I change it to 240

Hi Mike,
Ok so that means you were looking at the displayed rpm and not the frequency, yet another good reason to set the PD5 maximum frequency to a safe value for the wheels you are using.
Yes, set it to 240V, it might well be used in the v/hz ramp calculation.

Ray
