But I think that drive is a bargain anyway.

Ray, the way I read the maker's explanation, VVC is just their particular pulse width modulation. Just marketing speak and has nothing to do with actual flux vector control:

Well the danfoss arrived on Wednesday, I must say the eBay global shipping program has been good to me.
Arthur and I are off to pick the lathe up on Tuesday so we shall hopefully find out soon enough just how well the 2 go together.
    Cheers,

    Hi Aaron,
It is a nice drive but it is not big enough for the C10. Whilst the motor is 1.5KW and the drive is rated to 3.2KVA, the motor is pulling over 4KW when the high speed clutch is dropped and the motor is running at 2800rpm or so. The drive just cannot supply enough power to the motor. I found they are not as easy to program as the Huanyangs but that may have just been me.....
I'm not sure if i'll stick it on ebay or save it for the Rivett. Being a 3 phase in unit i don't imagine i'll sell it easily.

    Ew

On edit, the drive was sold as new old stock but there were some parameters already set. I couldn't for the life of me find a factory reset setting.....

    Default shame

    hi Ew how are you?
thanks for reply. its a shame the danfoss isn't up for it.
I just brought the vlt 2800. brand new but no manual.
It cost $120. did you use the online support for
    drive programing?
I think where spoilt with Huanyangs programing because
of the great work some here have done with the manual
    upgrades.
can you down load danfoss manuals.
    thanks again

I'm good thanks Aaron, if a little cold. It hit a top of 8 here today.....

Ray G sent me a PDF of the manual. Now he did tell me where to get it from......But i forget. This is from the Danfoss website http://mcliterature.danfoss.com/WebP...c_MG27A202.pdf it looks like it may be the go.

    $120 is a bargain, the 2040 was $150.

I have not had any luck with a vfd on my clutched machines... even oversized it trips at higher spindle speeds. In the end i set mine up so that when i pull the lever to engauge the clutch the motor starts and ramps up then when you disengauge it the spindle is braked as normal and the motor ramps down and stops independantly. Not ideal but i find i can live with it.

    Thanks Gallegos.
When i saw what the motor was drawing i must say i was a little surprised. Mind you it is physically a very big motor so it could dissipate a lot of heat if it needed too. For the time being i'll run it as Holbrook intended and keep an eye out for a 3KW or even bigger VFD. It was fine at 50hz (4 pole), spindle speed at 1000rpm, 70hz was ok but at 80hz it was hopeless. To get the full speed range i need to go to 100hz so the motor spins as it would as a 2 pole motor, the motor is 3 speed. The only other option is to run the VFD with the 3 different motor speeds, but i'm not sure how the VFD will like it.
