Hi all,

I have a Waldown c-0 grinder. It has two quills, one for external, the other for internal.

The internal quill has a 0.003" larger OD than the external quill. The external quill (the smaller of the two) fits into the body clamp just fine as a nice sliding fit, but that extra 0.003" on the internal quill OD means that it does not fit in the clamp. The clamp has no 'expanding' capability so it really is damn difficult to get the quill in. I have burr filed all little dings off it so it is not stuck on a burr at all. The 0.003 diff is not wear and tear - both quills are near-perfect cylinders with almost no OD variation along their lengths - so this is how they were made.

It seems the only way to get it in or out is to smack it in, or out, and that really seems the wrong thing to do.

So, my dilemma is ... do I (attempt to) reduce the OD by a few thou to get it the same size as the external quill? Or smack it like it seems previous owners must have done in the past - which seems odd. I keep having this feeling like I've missed something important.

Anybody with a C-0 care to measure the OD of their quills?

Many thanks,

Greg.
