    Sorry Steve - you asked that before and didn't get much response.
    I've just gone out and taken my 3M apart. Once the nut up top is off, the pulley just lifts off.
    If yours does not then check that there are no grub screws hidden in the bottom of the grooves.
    I'd try some penetrating oil in case there is some thing gummed up, but other than that it would be some gentle pressure with a puller.

    You may also be able to use something like tyre levers on two opposing sides to get some purchase on a corroded on pulley. But as Michael said, the pulley should just slide off once the 'gunk' has been 'cracked'.
    I saw you initial message and suspected that you had figured it out at the next time you looked at it.....

    On mine there is no grub screws, just the top nut. There is a possibility that the key has gotten wedged somehow and is complicating the issue.
