Hi metal folks,

Given the love for the Waldown's here I was hoping someone might be able to help with some measurements.

On the weekend I picked up a cheap, but great, Waldown 3M-2 drill press. It is a substantial thing and I've been looking for a good Waldown for a while, especially a floor standing unit. My drill press count is now 4 (a Tough bench drill I'm currently restoring, a smaller Macbro bench drill - restoring, and the working Taiwanese generic drill press); if you include the mill I have five things that can drill holes vertically - well if they were all in a working state .

Anyway, the 3M is quite good. It's fitted with a round 4 slot table like you see in the photos of the radial drill that only has one or two small drilled holes in it, but it has nice features like the rack for the table, solid as hell and the wide speed range with the intermediate pulley.

The only initial issues I can see so far are the quill spring is broken, needs new belts, new switch and the original motor was apparently dead (or more likely 3 phase) so they threw the motor away - with the 3 step pulley fitted to it. It came with a single pulley on a 1/2hp motor but I'd like to get it back to the 3 step and up to 3/4hp which I have a suitable motor here.

Obviously I'll be ordering a few pieces from Waldown/Brobo, namely the quill spring but I might get a few other items while I'm at it, but the 3 step pulley they have for the 3M is a 19mm bore (and $190 plus postage). I have 16mm shaft motors. Is anyone able to take some quick rough measurements of the diameters of the 3 step pulley on the motor so I can try and find a 5/8"/16mm replacement pulley that will give me close to the original speeds? It seems to have a boss underneath to raise the pulley a bit too.

If I can find a 3 step that is close enough on ebay or somewhere or even a 4 step that might work, I could go that route. I don't think I have any alu round bar big enough for a pulley of this diameter. I could use a reducing bushing for the Brobo part, but with the cost I could be looking really closely at converting to VFD (I have a VFD I think would be suitable, would just need to get a suitable 3ph motor).

Anyway, in summary, I would really appreciate it if someone could get me some rough dimensions of the three steps and height of the pulley in the hope I might find a 16mm alternative.

Thanks, JD
