for the older SN waldown drills I have, I was not able to find anything that was remotely close.
However a 50-50 mix of Dulux A322 Little Mermaid and A323 Jimbaran Bay is so close I cant tell the difference the sample and original... a good painter will though...as will some of the eagle eyes on here
I bought both tins (at separate times) thinking they were close but when a sample was applied one was too dark the other too light...mixed them at 50-50 and as above I cant see any difference.
But now I dont like it and will most likely be going with the darker Jimbaran Bay....I think.......lol...Last edited by eskimo; 13th April 2015 at 05:58 PM. Reason: add the S to drill...after all I have 5 of them..little blighters have been breeding

There are 2 Colourbond colours which while not right on the mark they are reasonably close. For the life of me I can't find my pack of colour swatches and both names are similar, I think that they may be "Ocean" and maybe "Deep Ocean". Ocean is available in pressure pack and by the litre and larger tins no doubt. I dont know about Deep Ocean packaging, but when I was repainting my Waldown, a local hardware store was having a closing sale, and I bought 2 pressure pack tins of Ocean for $4.00 a tin and my drill came up nicely.

You have the names correct. My Wattyl colour chart says that Ocean is available in a spray can but Deep Ocean is not. I've found that if you are careful the Kilrust paints go on reasonably well with a (good) brush, so no spray can is not necessarily a deal killer.

It's funny but mine has always been hammertone blue available in a spray can or tin. It originally came from the old VIC railways, then the APM workshop and finally my father's workshop. Not sure if or when it was changed, I know the APM workshop painted a lot of their machinery with hammertone blue so perhaps there but when my father restored it he used the same. I too used it after my workshop fire.

that is odd as yours appears to be same vintage as one of mine, but (3 of the 5) certainly are not hammertone blue ...more of a gloss bluey green. This includes the paint under the TAFE Blue on one of those 3
the other 2 .... the hi speed and the autofeed one are hammertone blue. But i think these are later models.

Yeh mine may not be original original, APM may have changed it, but it has been hammertone blue for at least the past 40 years

Thanks Michael, I have been to Launceston and back today, just got in in fact. I too have found the Kilrust paint works well with a decent brush. The brushes needn't cost a fortune either, - I used a Renoir 7216, which are available from Bunnies, although the big green shed did not supply mine. The 72 series of Renoir brushes have a clear varnish over natural timber handle, and brown nylon bristles with a dark tip, as distinct from the black painted handles with white hog bristles. The size 16 was probably between $3 and $4 IIRC. I put it on over Hi-Chem (I think it is called) etch primer from Super-Cheap Auto. That is also available in various sized tins as well as a spraypack.
Although I inferred that I used 1 or 2 spraypacks to paint the Waldown, I actually used 1, with just a bit more to do, so having another Waldown project, which is a bit sadder in condition having suffered a fall, I decided to buy a litre of the stuff, and to keep the other spraypack either for a final coat, or for touch ups. The Renoir brushes gave a finish at the hands of this mug painter, indistinguishable from sprayed parts.
