That is how I imagined it would look - glad I wasn't way off track. Just have to figure out the bearing arrangement and my pulley. The locking mechanism is nothing like I would have thought.

Yes thanks for the pics Bob. I've never managed to get mine apart. What engages the large groove in the bottom of the eccentric? Presumably that is what retains the assembly.

The two motor mount pins run through the bore for the column. The groove both accommodates them and provides a positive stop for the eccentric. It means the motor mount has to be pulled almost completely out of the drill body to get the eccentric out. Quite clever I think...

Looks like my home-made version will require a revision because my designated intermediate pulley doesn't have enough 'meat' in the casting to accommodate any bearings. I will need to fit the bearings into the eccenter part and have the spindle run with the pulley attached. I have an idea I can make that work.

Interestingly Bryan, on my beefier 3M, gravity holds the mount in place. The 3M has the motor mounted on a hinged, over centre operated mounting plate. In my mind a particularly stylish and well resolved alternative to the sliding bar mount on the 8SN and my beater.

Hello Richard,

Yes, the eccentric block sits in the column and the handle with it's brass plug simply locks the block in position. You might be thinking that the belts would position the pulley and the eccentric but the handle enables the tensioning of the spindle belt with subsequent locking after which the motor belt can be tensioned.

I see that you made an intermediate pulley for your 8sn

the column on mine appears to have an internal seam. Did yours?, and did you do anything to compensate or bore the column?.
or shouldnt I worry about an intermediate?

Hi Joe...I'll start again...the column doesnt go all the way up duh...

Did you just knock out the steel cap and just drop the block into the casting as the 3m series?...or did you do something different?
