Default Waldown Radial Arm Drill Press

    Hi all,

Well decided to start the New Years Resolution list early, and spent a bit of time today working on a Waldown Radial Arm Drill I picked up a few months back.

I have been going through the list of things it needs and stealing them from a 8sn that has become a bit of a parts machine.

One major issue on the radial arm was an issue with the spindle (the picture says it all)

Fortunately the 8SN seemed to have an exact match, so I have performed a swap (poor 8SN).

This brings me to my question, looking at the end and having never taken the chuck off the 8SN (my other waldowns are an 2M and 3M, both morse taper which are removed using a wedge, both the 8sn and the radial drill do not have slots for a wedge), I am wondering if what I am looking at (the part that is broken off), is part of the main shaft or is part of the chuck, and as such can be removed. If it can be removed, would anyone care to make any suggestions on the best approach.

    Cheers,

    Camo

Remove the circlip and press the bearing and broken part out from the top I would say. Then you will be able to see what you have got. Waldown owners may be able to give specific answers but I don't see how this would cause any problems.

My 8SN just has a tapered nose that goes into the chuck. Not sure what taper, maybe a JT3?
I would say its the spindle broken off there, poor thing.
