Bohler Udderholm sell 01 (they call it "Arne")
    see
    Bohler-Uddeholm Australia - Cold Work

Their website says their flat bar starts at86x12mm which ion the large side for a chisel.
However, they do say "other sizes available on request" so you may want to contact them.

If you just want to practice you can always use a piece of HSS from McJing
I made a set of chisels out of a set of these
    https://mcjing.com.au/categorybrowser.aspx?categoryid=369

According to the client they have been excellent and hardly ever need sharpening.

That was a set I made for Luthier, Chris Wynne, of Thomas Lloyd Guitars back in 2008.

    Some details here https://www.woodworkforums.com/f44/lu...ool-kit-70211/

    Thanks Andy,

I never knew that RS sold O1... price is pretty fair considering.. prices in the US are generally cheaper, but freight kills it.

Buy Steel Rods, Bars, Tubes & Hexagonals Tool Steel Rectangular Bar, 500mm x 50mm x 6mm RS RJBFM0050000060 online from RS for next day delivery.

$52.13 for 20"x2"x1/4" is pretty fair, Victornet have 18"x2"x1/4 for $21.38, but then add $50+++ for freight costs....

    Regards
    Ray

    Ray, Ben,
RS online prices are pretty high but then again it is actually a bricks & mortar shop.
They also include a courier fee in the price of each item.

Ben, I would be interested in finding out if you actually go to the shop front if they still charge the same price opposed to online.
Also, its a bit cryptic on the silver steel. If it says "lot of 4" it means you are buying a quantity of 4 pieces and it is more economical to buy 300mm lengths than 1000mm. Also 300mm silver steel comes to you in a red plastic container similar to the way large drill gets packaged, while 1000mm lengths come in a cardboard post tube. Both are handy for storage of stock.
    Cheers Andy

My experience is the prices are the same EXCEPT the online special prices are not available at the B&M store.
