Weldmate Gasless MIG 100 & 150 A
Just noticed that the local Mitre 10 has the SIP Weldmate Gasless MIG 100 for $299 and the bigger 150 for $599.
Found specs here
Has anyone had any experience with either of these? I need something to weld thin walled RHS 1.6mm ~ 3.0mm.
Thanks, Interwood

I've used the 150 and it is a good welder. Gasless MIg does have it's uses but I wouldn't buy a MIG unless you could use it with gas as well. It's always sort of the "in case" thing. What if you wanted to do some heavier welding in the future. You would have the option of grabbing a cylinder of gas and hooking it up.
Otherwise you may as well buy a stick welder (Yes you can weld 1.6mm with a stick).Have a nice day - Cheers

I am not a fan of "Gasless" MIG (metal inert gas) welding.
My brother bought one against my advice, and now has to suffer with it.
Crappy welds, expensive consumables, toxic polution from the POS thing..... Your choice though.
I have seen a few posts from "Handy men" who praise them, but I think the concept of gasless mig is fundementally flawed.
Spend you money on something that works.
Just my opinion.

Hi,
I agree with Fossil. The process was developed for heavy industry and doesn't scale down well to the light sections all too well.
This is because the process is a hot deeply penetrating one that is not suited to thin sections.
It is not a cheaper replacement alternative for Mig even though some will believe this is so as the mechanicals are the same.
The BIG difference is the arc polarity Mig -electrode negative, Flux Core - electrode positive.
Electrode positive is a much hotter arc and far less suited to sheet metal. In my humble opinion flux core is not really effective until you can put 150 amps plus into it.
The Poms do persevere with it though on a hobby basis. check this link.
