Phil, I lived in Adelaide for 35 years and never knew that Aircraft Museum existed. In fact I visited Greenock on a number of occasions as we had a fairly good customer there (Ahrens)!

Also spent a fair bit of time at WRE (Weapons Research Establishment).

Will make sure I go there on our next trip to Adelaide, thanks for sharing.

    PS

Did you vist the Birdwood Mill Museum?

It's well worth a visit Fred and I missed the Birdwood Mill. That just gives me another reason to visit
One thing I did forget was some pics I took for Bryan.
The first six are at Moonta and are Hawkes cranes.
The next three are at Burra.
The last three are at Swan Hill.
Hawke has a museum at Kapunda but it was closed

Awesome! To explain, there are several similar cranes in my area and for some reason they appeal to me. Some (might be one) bear the name Hawke of Kapunda, and as Phil was heading up that way I asked him to keep an eye out and take some pics for me. The Moonta ones do look very similar to 'mine', although no two of the local ones are identical. Nice to know there's a museum, will put that on my 'do not miss' list next time I'm in the mid north. Thanks heaps Phil.

    Phil,

Next time you are over this way you should try and align it with an engine run at the Aircraft Museum at Port Adelaide ( SAAM South Australian Aviation Museum. Pt Adelaide ). They run all their engines a couple of times over the day, the engines include a Gnome Rotary from WW1, a few P&W radials, sundry in-line engines and a WW2 Merlin. The best part is that they run them completely un-silenced and you get to sit or stand within yards of them.

I know it's internal combustion, not external combustion, but it's pretty impressive.

PS : Please thank Michael from the mine tours for looking after us while Barb & I were at the Hill. We were the only 2 on his tour and he arranged tickets for another of the mine tours.

And thanks for liking our little state, and not being afraid to say so. Makes a refreshing change.

    Hi Gavin,
Michael is actually coming around to our house on Monday, I'm glad he looked after you.
I'll certainly pass on your thanks (and mine)

    Hi Bryan,
It was great having a mission to seek out the cranes, I had a ball.
There is a heap of them in Victoria so I'll keep it in mind.
The way your state goes about it's heritage is outstanding and a lot of areas reminded me of my youth and made me want to move there (or maybe that's a mid, to late life crisis )
Either way, I could live there.

Amen to that. Although I live in Vic and was born here, we moved here from SA in 2000. We live 7km from the border. Our clocks are on SA time, I work there we shop there. We do virtually nothing in Vic. This is just due to the location.

Many people rubbish SA and Adelaide. They rarely have a valid reason. Must make them feel good to pretend they actually have an opinion.
