Fibre gears...
Instead of bakelite you could also use micarta sheet stock...layers of linen impregnated with phenolic resin. It is very strong. If you need some give me an email. For some reason I have lots.
The motor rewinder who converted my 7EL to 240v said that the motor is a Fein unit, but he didn't specify a model number.
Plenty of sawzall conversions around. If someone is happy to make a motorised reciprocating tool for $35 then that seems like reason enough to make it do something more noble than renovation work. Ay d*#che bag can renovate a house, it takes skill to renovate a machine tool.
