workshop
Greetings chaps. I took these photos of my New Visby lathe for another thread but it was closed. So I thought that I would post them anyway. The New Visby lathes were made by an outfit called Purcell in Sydney. There were a number of variations of the beast I worked a very old one at the Herald Gravure Printers in Hawthorn now deceased. Mine is a later one with 2000 rpm top speed. Speed change is obtained by turning the wheel on the top of the head giving 4 positions of three speeds on each stop. The desired speed is given by positioning the two levers of the front. Quite and easy system when you get used to it. Thread cutting. The machine is set for Imperial threads which is what I use. But with change gears of which I have a multitude it will cut metric and Modular threads as well. There is the usual collection of goodies in the cupboard Mikes up to 12 inches plus other bits. I changed at great expense the tool post to a quick change variety with 8 holders. This machine is a working beastie and I am untidy. The lathe also has 3 steadies face plate and 4 jaw chuck. It has 3 inch bore through the head and a spider to support work at the outer end of the bore. I part own the beastie with a mate of mine The last two photos are my pedestal drill and grinder. and an overhear router which was made at the RMIT> yours 4-6-4

Here are a few pictures of my shed I have had it since i was 10 so that's 6 years. The best thing i have built is my tractor which is an ongoing project and i don't have a favorite tool.

Having sort of cleaned the shed a couple of snaps. All my gear is Chinese origin mainly H&F, Carbatec and Ozmestore. I have a wide variety of interests from woodworking, metal machining to CNC.
The main shed is 8.5 by 4.5m and a machine room which is half a double carport that
has been enclosed as well as two utility sheds. Temporary overflow goes under the patio
The machine room houses a 1200 by 1000 gantry router and a CNC'd X3 in a full flood enclosure. I also do electronics projects in there as well.
The main shed has sliding table saw, jointer, thicknesser and bandsaw to the front and HM45 mill and AL330 lathe at the back. There is other gear such as drill press, HD morticing machine and 3 in 1 press brake, grinders, compressors, vacuum system, etc. Where possible machines are on castors so they can be moved to an open area. Shelving starts at 1200 high so everything can be pushed back to the walls. Ceiling height is 2.7 so I can flip a full sheet over without turning it on it's side.
It is a bit of a challenge working in metals and wood in the same area. I am forever picking bits of ally swarf from wood projects.
A back shed houses my 1200 panbrake and sandblasting cabinet and lifting gear. Another smaller one holds paints and thinners and good bits of junk.
It is a bit different to the other sheds so I thought it might be of interest to some.Cheers,
Rod

Thanks Bob,
A bit bigger assembly area would be good. Too many toys and not enough floor space.Cheers,

Rod's Sea of Blue
I'm undertaking a site inspection tomorrow at Rod's place. I'll file a report. Sadly, the inspector is a Luddite.
