    Default Aniline dye carcinogenic?

I have just ordered some water soluble aniline powder to make a deep black finish for some boxes.

I was reading a book Water -Based Finishes by Andy Charron, published by Tauton Press, where it says some bad things about Aniline dye ( see attached).

Are you aware of how dangerous this powder can be?

What special precautions should I take in using it to dye some timber, any ideas?

    Hi Dengy,
I'd treat the Aniline dyes with respect. Gloves, a mask, cover your skin and wash yourself and the containers and stuff you used straight after you have finished and make up the dye in a position with good ventilation.

    Regards,

    Rob

Aniline dyes are terribly old school. There was great justification in researching alternatives, principally with safety in mind.
We used those things (and worse) at work for staining biological tissue sections on microscope slides. Always worked in a fume hood with great suction fans. Quite safe and useful under those circumstances but no others.
