Isotunes air defenders lowest volume is still too loud

I got a pair of Isotunes air defenders last week. They work great as hearing protection snd the audio quality is great. However, somewhat ironically, the audio is too loud, even on the lowest possible volume (iphone via bluetooth).

When using my various other headphones, I would typically have the volume at around half. But I can adjust it down to the point where the audio is barely a whisper in my ears. The isotunes on the other hand, if I start from zero volume, as soon as I go one click up the audio kicks in quite loud. There is just no wiggle room.

It’s an odd problem to have! I’m wondering if anyone else has this model and can confirm if yours is the same?

I'm not an Iphone user, but is there any adjustment for audio levels transmitted from the iphone? My android allows me to use the inbuilt speaker, corded phones, and bluetooth with independent volume controls set by the general volume control buttons, i.e it remembers the volume setting used for the particular output device and activates that when that device is used.

Do your IsoTunes have any form volume control? My Blueant over ear units have a volume control of their own.

I have a set of ISOtunes air defenders, as well as a set of the ISOtunes PRO ear buds, and use them both in the shed when I am running gear which makes a lot of noise, such as the thickness planer.
I have both linked to an iPhone X. As well as controlling the volume on the ISOtunes devices, you can also control the volume output from the iPhone. I have never had any problem in turning the volume down as low as I want using a combination of the two control methods.

Not sure if it would help or not, however on the iPhone under “settings” - “sounds & Haptics” there are headphone safety setting. Perhaps you can set something here to avoid the headphones going too loud.

I've tried with the "headphone safety" setting on and off. I've also tried adjusting the volume on the iPhone and using the volume buttons on the headphones, but as expected when connected to bluetooth the headphones just adjust the iPhone volume and vice versa.

I also just tested again and noticed that this is what the volume is doing:

I turn it all the way down to zero - no audio (of course)
I do one up click on volume - still no audio (but can confirm visually the volume has done up a notch)
I do another up click on volume - audio kicks in quite loud
Further click up adjust the volume upwards (as expected)

So there is definitely something weird going on with them. From zero/muted, the audio should kick in on that first "up" click, but it doesn't. Can anyone else confirm if theirs does the same?

Otherwise I'll reach out to isotunes to see what they say.

Can anyone with a pair test this volume thing for me? Basically connect to phone via bluetooth, play some music and then:
1. Turn the volume all the way down so it's muted
2. Turn it up one click - do you hear any audio?
3. Turn up another click - is it quite loud?
