Thread: Another short fingered forumite

I did the same thing 33 years ago, Jointer took 5 mm of bone of the end of my left ring finger. Luckily the blades were not sharp enough to completely take the first flap of skin off the end and the docs sewed the flap back up like yours. I remember it was the first and only time I had pethedine - I finally understood something about drug addiction. Last august that finger was again traumatized by being crushed in a goods lift door..

Anyway I hope you recover soon.

Ironwood, that is most unfortunate. I hope it heals quickly and painlessly. Having fed my fingers into a router and a Domino (don't ask) I know it is a bit of a shock and painful.

I guess the bright side is that it was just one finger. Hope it heals quickly and the memory doesn't.

I had a look for blood and chunks not long ago. Blades were clean as a whistle.

Sounds pretty similar to mine Bob, even the same finger.
They didnt give me any peth. just some local anisthetic in what they called a ring block. They needle up both sides of the finger, deadened they pain pretty well, and didnt wear off until 3.30am this morning.
They gave me some NO2 (laughing gas) when I first went in, Doesn't that stuff make your head spin

Gave me quite a shock at the time allright, the pain didn't kick in for a few moments though.

I had the ring block when my fingers got crushed then for painkillers they gave me Oxycodone - horrible stuff. It was then I discovered the value of ice as a pain suppressant for a crushing injury and can strongly recommend it.

The pain of it all. Bad luck mate.
I have spent a lifetime using and making all sorts of machinery, some of it very homemade that included a lawn mower made from an aluminium washing bowl, an electic motor and a wooden handle. All of it fairly dangerous stuff. But, and I've read this on these forums, that the thing that usually gets you is the unexpected and least dangerous tool in the workshop.In my case it was the bandsaw, perhaps the safest saw to use. I was lucky enough to lose only the tip of my finger. It was entirely my own fault after trying unsuccessfully to blow a small piece of dust off a cutting line, I moved it with my finger.
I quickly retrieved my finger tip from the floor as the dog started to head towards it.
Don't forget to keep it clean.

We've all done stupid things in half a moments inattention, but with varying degrees of luck in the outcome. Sincerely hope you heal up ok.

Just from the description I can almost feel it - not a great feeling.

Keep out the infection and I hope it heals up well - really soon.

I can sympathise with you, I have just got back from the hospital after a doctor sorted out an argument between a circular saw and my left thumb. Hope your finger heals well and quickly without complications.

What can any of us say?
This one of those occasions none of us anticipate and it only needs just one step in the well worked process to be missing.
