Default VALE VIC WOOD Australian woodturning legend.

It is with sadness and a very heavy heart that I report the passing early today, of Australian woodturning legend Vic Wood.

Vic was the starting point and mentor for hundreds if not thousands of Australian woodturners many of whom have themselves, gone on to become highly sought after international woodturning stars in their own rights.

Even Pauline (my wife) did a course with Vic many years ago.

Pailine and I spent many, many happy and most enjoyable hours with Vic and his wonderful wife Bev over the past 30 odd years.

We were often away together at wood shows and woodturning get togethers and and have very fond memories of those times and some of the evenings after the shows.

He will be sorely missed by the thousands of woodturners who came in contact with him over the years whether in classes, at exhibitions, shows, many international symposiums, on the tennis court or golfing.

A real gentleman, a wonderful person and a great loss to woodturning.

Pauline and I send our most heartfelt condolences, and love to Bev and her family at this trying time.

    Neil and Pauline Ellis

    Footnote:
I doubt there will be an open funeral due to COVID-19 restriction. I will post more information when it becomes available.

A true gentleman going on the few times I met him at his house and was always willing to help and instruct quite freely.

    He will be missed

I add my condolences also - a great loss to the wood-working fraternity.

I have an association with Coburg High School so like the story of him and Pentridge.

Very sad news. My condolences to Bev and family.
Vic was a hugely talented all round good bloke with a great sense of humor.

I personally never meet Vic Wood , but his reputation certainly preceded him
I think most woodturners would have heard of Vic Wood,
A legend of the woodturning family I would have loved to have met him
I am sure he will be sadly missed and condolences to his family
    RIP Vic Wood .....

My sincere condolence to Bev and her family. I was very fortunate to have lunch with Bev and Vic on a very cold day in a June. May Vic rest in peace.

Very sad to hear of Vics death. Always friendly, always a gentleman and approachable to share views. He was admired for his unique designs and was part of the elite Yarra Turners group. He taught turning to many and I did a turning course with him in late 80s. I saw him last the the last Vic Turning Exhibition in 2019 and as always enjoyed a chat.

    Vale Vic Woods.

Sadly and with great respect, Eugene D

I have been told Funeral for Vic will be 15th October (Thursday week)

    • Funeral notice will be in Melbourne Paper(s) tomorrow Tuesday 6th Oct.

    • Funeral will be conducted by White Lady Funerals, Burwood.

    • There will be a Condolences Wall where you can leave messages on white Lady Website

    • The funeral will be streamed live and and will be kept available for 3 months for those who miss it.

    • All details should be in the funeral Notice and will also be available on the White Lady website.

For those who haven't done so and would like to leave a condolence message, an anecdote, or memory of Vic and your time with him, etc, please feel free to put your thoughts in this thread and I will make sure they get to Bev and the family.

For anyone thinking about sending flowers to Bev (if you have the address (not giving it out)) maybe think twice as I've been reliably told the tables and every other flat surface in the house are full to overflowing.

    Cheers - Neil

Very sorry to see this. My wife and I did his basic course in early 90s and still have our bowls and lidded bowls we made. We came away inspired with dreams of Durden lathes and thankful for the knowledge and approach Vic had towards his students and craft. A gentleman. Our condolences to his family.
