Looking good, SM. What speed did you apply the Shellawax at, it looks a little flat, or is it the photo?

It may have also been the wood and it hasn't taken to it, is it oily perchance? Personally I apply the friction polishes at max speed and get it good and hot.

It actually looks like a wooden fountain pen!, without CA or WOP or Rustins they do look like wood, Proabably a couple of coats of Shellawax Glow would make it shine for a little while, but it is a pleasant change from the other type of finishes( mind you, I usually use CA because customers usually want it to "shine") Amos

I got it reasonably hot but methinks could have probably done better
    didn't seem particularly oily

It's all a learning experience, I'll crank it up tomorrow on the coolabah burl (which is just begging to be have its final joust with the skew)

    Q. can you put WOP over shellawax and will Neil curse me unto the 7th generation for even asking

Good looking FP SW, although I do agree with SWMBO, it does look a little on the thick side, but I know a lot of people like that look. Personally, and it is purely personal, I like the a little straighter and slimmer.

Nice blank though, goes well with that Baron.

I don't think it's too thick at all. Just a slight curve to the barrel that makes it interesting. Had you turned it bushing to bushing, it would only be about 1 mm less. The shape of the cap is perfect. Don't change a thing.

    Very nicely done!
Excellent fit and I like the flat finish.

    G'day SM,

NICE Pen I like the finish as well. It's about the timber for me and I like the way your pen hhhmmmmm ..... doesn't look plastic . I also like the shape but as BS said, to each their own. My SWMBO also isn't backwards in saying "yuk", which has lead to a box of test/practice pens: Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

The pen looks great a natural finish for a change is beautiful. I crank the speed right up for the friction polish and on the dark wood use the Shellawax Glow.

I have used Shellawax and burnished right in and then applied WOP with no problems, so I would say yes to that one.

    Nice work.

I don't think it looks too thick at all. In fact, the smooth curve just makes it look
less like something cranked out of a machine. I like the finish, too. I know customers
like the shiny stuff, but there's something to be said for nicely polished wood as compared to nicely polished plastic over something wood inside.

    Thanks for the comments
To be fair to SWMBO I think she was actually referring the the overall size of the pen not to it's rotundedness (if there is such a word)
It does have more bulk then a sierra, after all
Me, I was pretty happy with how the floor board turned out
