Very nice pen Amos. Let us know how it appears in a few weeks.
Would a spray can clear estopol work as a sealing finish? Or would it crack and flake ?
I would have made a parting tool and scraper out of that rod. But I like my metal too small to hurt or too big to miss.

Well done Amos. What a short learning curve from tightening the lathe to producing that pen. To quote something I once read somewhere "Good, better, best"

Amos.
You have done it again. Well done.
I use Acralac on my brass - copper pens. Not very hard tho and scratches easy. Powder coating to expensive for a couple of pens.
Let me know what you come up with for coating please.

Cookie, about 3 years ago I purchased a Powder Coating set up, now I will have to find it, then get acquainted with it again! Amos

Hello Amos how have you been ? I hope you have been in good health ? I just noticed that you said earlier in the thread that you purchased a powder coating set up some time ago ? I a wondering if you could tell me where from and a rough price.
My reason for asking is I have been making bullet pens for some time now and have tossed around the idea of powder coating them so I am interested in setup prices ?
Thanks again

Ian, the first 50 bullet pens cost me around $300 ,they had a minimum order and a waiting time till they set up for clear ,I didn't always want to do batches of 50 or more so I looked around and came up with one of these Eastman they were good to deal with I chose the one with black and my choice of colors was 2 clear ,lasts a long time hehe, even with some waste in the learning process, I had to buy a small transformer off ebay to run the 110 volts ,but even with shipping and the transformer was less than the cost of my first order of powdercoating ,I see they have one for $99 a real bargain especially if they will give you clear powder instead of color, although the costs of powder is not that bad,and available in Aus. Here's a couple I did this week in clear
Hope that helps in your search , cheers ~ JohnG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

The link given by John----- EASTMAN---- is also where I purchased mine, remember you will need a 240 to 110vac transformer, maybe give me a PM and I will see what I can get it for from my Electronic Wholesaler. John what wattage did you get??? Amos

Not bidding hehe, I know Neil recently bought a much bigger one to run his VS ,yet to be installed on his woodfast, I got mine a long time ago hehe ,but the one I bought from an aussie distributer has been good and runs my VS no problems . I think they are a toroidal system ,which seems to be a bit better rhan the old heavy transformer types, you should know the answer to that with your electronics background hehe , cheers ~ John

Ok Guys time for the dumb questions.
The step down transformer can be bought here or on ebay or Amos can get through wholesalers.
But what about the other part that is required can it be purchased here in Australia or is it best to get from where john has sugested ?
Approx what cost are we looking for all up and is powder coating small items a very difficult process ?
I don't want to bite off more than I can chew but would really like to get into powder coating thingsa like my bullet pens.
Thanks everyone
Cheers Ian
