Thread: 1st Metal Pen

Be prepared for a big hit in postage mine was about $80 us ,and three yrs ago our dollar was in bad shape hehe.
As to the process it is very straight forward, you can do one item or many ,I usually do about 20 cases at a time ,plenty of videos and instructions on u=tube and I think also a demo on eastmans site. You need one of those el-cheapo toaster ovens to do the melting and bonding of the prepared coating so all up about $300 will set you up and running ,mine has paid for itself over and over ,not just savings on commercial prices ,but the convenience of being able to set your own timetable ,on average less than 1 hr start to finish of the process,and at least 20 minutes of that is baking time cheers ~ John

Thanks for the info John and it looks pretty good to me. I am going away to on holidays in a few weeks so will have to wait till after I get back and hope I still have some money left.
Do you think it makes much of a difference to the bullet pens by coating them ? I have been tossing the idea around for ages.

Dorno ! I polish and get a nice look to my shells ,but to keep it looking like that for a long time the powdercoating is really worth while, Being a very hard and durable finish which is baked on insures its the best you can do for your customers ,not everybody takes the extra steps ,and that's there choice of course ,to me it adds to the quality of the item ,and not everyone loves polishing brass hehe.Being a plastic coating it can also be polished after coating if needed ,not normally required, but I have had some that were a little rough out of the oven hehe. And if you get a really bad one a soaking in Acetone will remove the coating for a redo Yep I do get some failures lol. but no biggie and little waste . Cheers ~ John
