2 more pens
Hi,
My 2 latest pens. Camphor Laurel and Waddy. I have been told that Waddy is also called black wattle. They are click pens with an 8mm tube acquired from Ken at Toowoomba Woodworkers. Have been watching some videos regarding finishing pens and one showed using micromesh wet so I tried that and then finished with EEE and Shellawax. I also glued the tubes in with 24 hour araldite. The CA was too hit and miss for me. I still have to get down to the bushings a bit better. Will have to do some more pens. Have to get it right.
Let me know what you think.
Todd

On the right track hehe! not too far away from nailing it . I am not sure of wet MM on wood as the water can soak the wood and make the finishing a bit patchy. Try some "0000" (very fine steel wool) mitre ten and Bunnings stock it I think, this can smooth up the wood nicely and even burnish it a bit , after EEE (which is a fine abrasive ) try some "glow" from the same U-Beaut supplier ,it is a friction polish and will give you a great shine . It will dull in time with use,but leaves a nice wooden feel to the pens and is very popular as a finish ,finishing is an art that takes some practising and experimenting over time ,many ways of doing this ,and you will find what suits you best in due coarse,

Doing nicely, No, don't use wet on wood. The wet sanding is for Final CA polishing or for use on Acrylics, or Trustone, etc--ie substances that do not absorb water. Amos
