The first three from me in 2013
Took a 'time-out' from turning PR swirlies, had the idea I would make a couple of pens. Well, good things happen, and I made three today. All Arkansas Wild Black Cherry, two in rollerball and one in a fountain.
No CA finish was applied to any of these! That's right, I'm on a roll of not using this stuff that melts my eyes and makes my nasal cavity drizzle....and I couldn't be happier. These were all turned between centers, sanded to 1000grit, EEE and buffed with some wax.
Let's start with the fountain:
And now the rollerballs:
And finally, let's go for the 'group shot'!!!
Had some fun, made some more nice writting instruments, and I wasn't near the 'one-that-has-the-nasty-cold-and-is-grumpy'. Thanks for looking, feel free to let me know what you think. By the way, these three pens....total of $13.83 cost! What do you think the profit on that will be?
Scott (woohoo, profit is good...means I can buy more stuff) B

Like the colour of the Wild Black Cherry, very orange, well turned and presented,Amos

Nice work Scott.
Your workmanship is top notch, and your excellent photography shows them to great effect.

Beautiful pens Scott. I agree about the CA smell and odours. Its not good for the health unless you are sucking the air out of the shed with an extractor. Anything that makes your eyes water and you cough - other than a beautiful woman - is not worth the risk. I still use CA but am changing my air extractor system.
A question about the finish you have used - How does it wear? Does oil and sweat from the users hands begin to ruin the colour of the pen after a while?

Greg....
Not absolutely positive how the finish of EEE and simple wax buffing will hold up with everyone, but my first pen turned is still in use here with me. It hasn't lost any coloration of the timber, nor has it lost it's shine(I do re-apply wax on just a simple cloth rag from time-to-time as part of simple maintenance on all my pens in 'stock'). Don't get me wrong, my first will go for weeks on the desk without any TLC....and the wood is relatively a 'softer type'(EasternRedCedar), it has shown some denting from things being tossed on top of it.
Thanks everyone for the nice words! I will need to post the photo method over here as well.....it's in the IAP "Photography section" for those that can't wait.
Scott (simple HDR, not overdone) B
