My 2nd, 3rd and 4th pens
Been very slack because I haven't put up any photos since the set of display shelves yonks ago. There's been precious little furniture, but many turnings since then Just keep forgetting to take pics.
My Dad dropped not so subtle hints about wanting my first pen so I didn't get a picture of it.
These are my 2nd, 3rd and 4th pens. They are all slimeline kits from Addictive. From the left, Jarrah, Iroko (African Teak), and something that I got out of the scrap bin at The Woodsmith last weekend. I have no idea what it is but it's a piece of burl, quite a hard wood when turning, and sands up a bright yellow powder. Any clues on that would be appreciated.
I hadn't ever tackled pens before this years WWW show, so I bought some kits there. Addictive is rather ironically named as it turns out. I'm hooked.
Sorry about the glare but I took about ten pics and this was the best I could get.

Three pens that show you experimented with shape and timber. This is important to do,your pens are pleasing and acceptable presents at the right time of the year.Have continuing fun. Peter

They're a good start.
Just a guess, it's hard to tell from the pic... but the mystery wood could be Amboyna.
I hope so, anyway... I'm going to be fossicking in Les's bin ASAP in the hope that it is and there's more...

Thanks all for the kind words.
It certainly looks like some of the photos in your link Skew. Not sure if you'll find much left in the bins though. There were two small bits there which I took with me. I got three pens worth of blanks from them. Len may have some bigger bits out the back waiting for a class.
I just used EEE and Shellawax. Did about 3 applications of each alternating between the wax and the polish, then applied 2 more of the polish. It's not exactly as I imagined, thought it would be glossier, but I'm still deciding whether a high gloss on a pen is what I want. I have tried CA finishes before, just on scrap turnings to try and get the hang of it. CA then Boiled Linseed then CA then ...etc etc. I read that somewhere on here. Still figuring that one out and I am a little gun shy also at the thought of the bushes getting glued to the blanks with the CA.
