Default 2nd weekend of practice and pen making

    Hi everyone,

Last weekend I did some more successful turning. I learned some important lessons from my first weekend about accurate sizing, and good sanding.

    The pens here are:
    1. Australian Silky Oak Streamline Stylus
    2. Cocobolo Streamline
    3. Purpleheart Streamline
    4. Silky Oak Slimline Pencil

Hope you like. Any feedback would be helpful. Next thing is Sierras and capped pens like Baron!

Well done that lot, it's a never ending learning process if you get "addicted" hehe, the only thing that never changes is matching your hardware joints for smooth transitions ,other than that materials colors shapes are all what you feel comfortable with enjoy the journey , cheers ~ John

    Thanks John and plantagenon.

I am really enjoying this new hobby, and have since drilled, glued and sanded blanks for 10 x slim/streamlines, about 8 sierras, and 7 baron / jr gentleman's pens.

Now comes the fun part, but also. The nervous part (hoping I don't blow out the blanks)

One question, what are you doing with all of these pens that you are making?

    Hi Arry,

I haven't built up enough of a collection yet to display them anywhere, but I'm thinking that once I have about 30 good quality pens, I'll just put them in a display at my work for friends and family to purchase as gifts for their friends.

I sold my first pen (before I photographed it) last week - to a co-worker for $15. A streamline in Brazilwood.

what do you meaty this? I this just to make sure the turned blank is exactly the same size as the tip, centre band and tip where the timber touches the pen kit?

Mate nicely done on those pens they look good John and Artme are talking about the transmission between the timber and the nib, center band and end cap so its a smooth transition ) do you use a mandrel saver for your lathe )

Hi there, Well done. Your pens are gorgeous.
I wouldn't worry if you do blow out the blanks. Have a look at what Woodenink has done with his blowouts. Glitter, Sawdust and CA glue fill in.......................AWSOME Result. Now I'm hoping that I can have equally as good a blowout result to try the fill in. But apparently it takes years of practice...LOL
