3 in Forest Oak
For Christmas I got a few kits so decided to make one of each in Forest Oak for comparison. From left (bottom) to right (top) are the Broker, PRK-401 & Americana Classic. Finish is CA on all while I am waiting for my Rustins plastic finish to turn up.
Enjoy,

Thanks Sam & Amos,
Amos, I put on three coats of thin then five coats of thick. I used to put on about 10 coats of thick but think its overkill if the CA is put on smoothly in the first place.

Pens
Nice collection sire.
Do you think the Rustins will be easy to use on a pen? And are you going away from CA because of the fumes?

Thanks again... I am hoping that the Rustins will let me get more of a production run happening with the pens. Once a pen is on the mandrel finishing with CA it stays there until completion, whereas I am hoping to be able to turn to shape and sand to 400 grit then take off the mandrel and coat with the Rustins. That will let me turn more pens while the epoxy is drying and just put them back on the mandrel for finishing. The fumes of CA don't worry me at the moment but it seems the effects are cumulative so would rather not take the risk in the long run.

Good thinking, Batman.
I like Rustin's PC, I use to use it way back when - 'twas the first finish I used on pens. I'm not sure why I stopped using it on them, I was more than happy with the finish and I still use it for the inside of my goblets. I probably just got carried away with experimenting with other finishes and "forgot about it."
This is the second reminder I've had lately about using it for pens; I really should bring it back into my repertoire.
Nice pens, BTW. Isn't it amazing how simply using the same timber can make pens look like a "set" even though they're completely different kits?
