Post 4 Pencils in Assorted Timbers (Pencil1/1a's)

Pencils in (from top) Banksia, Curly Jarrah, Western Rosewood and Flame Sheoak that were completed today (starting to get the hang of things - and well and truly already addicted).

    Default Pencils

Skinny and full of colour.Who do you find likes the pencils in preference to pens, why pencils are not so well used as pens?
I have no preferences but make pens normally, never had a request for a pencil.
Those timbers are great whatever kit and I will now make some pencils and test the water by showing and giving. Thanks Peter

They are very nice. My favorites are the Jarrah and the Sheoak. It really is addictive, isn't it?

Who uses pencils, PenPal? Students and engineers. Also, engineers who are still students. While I like my big Churchill pens in meetings, when I am working out a problem you will generally find me with a mechanical pencil and some graph paper. And I'm not using the graph paper for its intended purpose either. I just like it. The squares make for great doodle starters when I'm on long calls. Sometimes, I find myself roughing out my next jewelry box while on a long, boring conference call.

When i were picking up my first kits to make, the pencils were there and i thought why not! (thinking i wouldn't mind a nice looking pencil). I don't think its a matter of preference of pens over pencils but rather an alternative like a different type of pen (ball point/rollerball/fountain pen) or even just different kits. As ciscokid said doodling and designing is definetely a good use. ( i used to use mechanical pencils in preference to standard pencils in technical drawing classes - was great not having to worry about continuously sharpening the pencil to a fine point).

Thought of one pencils over pens story - Russian Cosmonaughts

Isn't the story that NASA spent a fortune to develop pens to write in space when the Russians just used pencils!

    Matt,
Very nice pencils! My favorite is the Flame Sheoak. Have not seen that wood before. The only time I can sell a pencil is as part of a set.

Yeah, the Flame Sheoak is nice.

I can't say I've ever sold any pencils by themselves... but I've sold just as many as part of a "matched set" with a fountain pen as I have fountain/rollerball pairs! Oddly, I can't remember selling any rollerball/pencil pairs. Funny that.

One day I'll find a good set of matching pencil/rollerball/fountain pen kits...
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.
