Three in 90 minutes
It's raining cats and dogs this fine Income Tax Day. So, with SWMBO getting a much needed nap after her travels, I got out of the house and into the shop for some pen turning. From top to bottom we have Goncalo Alves, Cocobolo, and Bocote. My finishing technique seems to be getting better since I am getting a better shine. Looking back, I can see my early pens were rather dull. The photo doesn't do justice to the Cocobolo. It has yellow, red, and purple swirls in it. Quite an amazing timber, but the dust is extremely irritating to the eyes and respiratory system. Caution must be exercised.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Damned nice pens mate, but... Cocobolo should be approached with extreme care. There's an old saying about it: "There are two types of people in the world; those who are allergic to Cocobolo and those who will be."
Really, a plain dust mask isn't enough... this is the sort of material that needs a pressurised hood like the Triton Respirator or similar. Seriously!

Cisco,
Awesome pens. I perfer the Bocote, but the other two are great looking as well. I don't work with cocobolo much, but luckily have not had any reactions.... yet. Will be even more cautious now.
