    thanks for that pete each rack is made of food grade plastic ( well will have been ) and only the base is metal its got a couple of solid trays that fit on the racks that are used for drying yohgurt and even soups so that should catch anything may even put some water in there like in proper kiln

    You could always just stick em in the fridge. will dry them out in no time. stick em in the dry bit up the top and they dry real quick, no need to outlay for a new microwave or anything else. the dehydrator should work well for small pieces also. You can do it by weighing the pieces. water being approx 70 percent of the green weight dehydrate till the weight has reduced by the appropriate amount. i.e. 1kg of wood = 700 g of moisture, you want to get roughly 8.5 to 12% moisture content. see if you can do the maths from here. might save you some money on a moisture meter.
