Accelerator for CA
Can anyone tell me where I can get my hands on some accelerator for CA please. I am not interest in Glen 20 et al, but want the real product. It is hard to find now as David and Bunnings don't have it and SE Qld Working supplies doesn't have it in stock either.
Thanks
Greg

Go to a bearing supply shop that stock Loctite products and get some Loctite NCF Activator.
Works great.

CA Accelerator
If you are on the north side of Brisbane, Vermec Engineering in Dalton Street Kippa-ring sells it along with a lot of other wood turning stuff.

Mark at 043 turning Sanding,Polishes & Glues - PenKits, pen kit suppliershas some of the Mitre fix which contains both 50g thick CA and a can of accelerator for around the $20.00 price even though it shows out of stock he usually has some . If not I have some for $20.00 plus postage (not sure what that is but can check if required) but marks is your best bet just tell him Ian sent you lol

Hey Greg. I ordered several cans from 043Turning about 10 days ago. He said he was waiting for a stock delivery, as everyone was now after it since David (Timberbits) is not supplying it anymore to his customers. While I was ordering it on his website, I also bought a heap of other stuff of him. Gotta give your customers what they want these days, other wise they go shopping elsewhere. Cheers.

I havn't seen accelerator for a better price than the mitre fix is (not plugging the supplier just the product) because if you go to a hobby shop and buy a 50g bottle of CA you will pay around $19.95 and then for the cans that they have of Accelerator are around the same $19.95 so if you look at it that way Mitre fix is a great product and also great value because I have seen it below $20 so you do the maths LOL
Cheers Ian

Hi John. Please tell us how you use CA without accelerator ?. Do you just wait a few minutes in between coats for it to go off ?. I have only ever used CA + Mitrefix since beginning to make pens. I'm always pushed for time, (on call 24/7 ) so an accelerant is handy for me. Cheers.

I will have to get some. I swore off CA in favour of nitro dipping. I am really happy with the nitro BUT - I have to make a couple of Majestics for another wedding and I just want to cover my a*** in case the nitro goes yellow on exposure to the sun over a period of time. As the Majestic wedding pen sets seem to be the orders I am getting through word of mouth I can't afford to bugger them up.
PS Pariss - Seeing your workshop in the photos you posted the other day has caused me to feel guilty so I spent 3 hours in the garage this afternoon cleaning it up - a complete rubbish bin full of - well, rubbish. Mind you, I would still prefer to eat my dinner off the floor of your shed than mine, but it is starting to look in shape.

The C.A. Again.
Hi Plantagenon,
It all depends on what you are using it for. There are cheaper CA's, & I don't mean the 6 to a packet.
As I have stated here before, if you use Loctite 401, ( $14 as it has just gone up ) you do not need an Accelerator, as it is almost Instant, & I mean Instant.
It is a little bit thicker than Loctite 406, that is Runny, & takes longer to set.
I honestly don't know why you would pay $ 20 for something you can make for a couple of Cents, being the Accelator.
The stuff I make works very well, & I'm pretty fussy with what I use.
One of the best Turners in Bonnie Klein, uses Wooden Face Plates & sticks most of her work with CA & Accelerator.
Works for Bonnie.
As stated before, it is HOW it is Sprayed on, as you need a very, very fine Spray.
So, if I use L/401, why do I use Accelerator, well that is because I use, one of the Cheaper Glues, that takes an age to set.
Hope this is of some helpRegards,
issatree.
Have Lathe, Wood Travel.

I need to correct the above information. The Loctite aersol activator is - " Loctite 7471 Primer T "
I had mixed up the NCF with another brand.
Loctite ® 7471
