Adjustable pen blank jig
This is a copy of Dave Bell's (Penturners Paradise forum) adjustable pen blank jig. It was in a tutorial posted he on PPF and looked the goods so I thought I would make myself one. My first impressions are that this versatile jig is going to be used quite a bit.
Pic #1 shows the jig and where the pen tube is placed.
Pic #2 shows the blank ready to cut.
Pic #3 shows to end result with the left over offcut.
I have made the jig so it cuts the blank to the size I prefer but this would be personal preference for anyony making there own.
If I am concerned about blow out from drilling the hole for the tube a simply place a spacer in the tube space to make it slightly longer then after drilling remove the spacer reset the jig (which takes all of 3 seconds) and trim of the blow out leaving the blank the correct size for glue up.
Commonly used pen blank sizes (i.e. Sierra, slimline, bullet etc.) could also be marked on the jig eliminating the need to place the tube in each time. I have made mine to take a tube up to 120mm which would cover just about any pen on the market. The only money I had to spend making this was $13.00 for the clamp from Carbatec.
Cheers Rummy

Took me a while to figure it out rummy, but a great idea. You need to point out the fixed block, maybe. But I like it, might have to find a woodworker to make one for me.

Hey Greg, sorry mate I should have explained how it works.
Basically as undies pointed out the centre block is fixed and when the clamp is closed it locks the slide in position. The tube (any size) is placed into the left side of the centre block (where it says tube) and the slide moved till it stops against the tube and locked in place by the clamp. The blank is placed on the right side of the slide and is ready to cut.
The positioning of the centre block and the internal measurement between the outer blocks of the slide determine how much oversize the blank is cut (in comparison the the actual size of the tube that is) because the blank needs to be slightly longer than the tube.
Hope this makes sense.

Its a great little set up and should save time measuring blanks. I noticed you have a good size band saw. I like the measuring concept but I think my band saw table would be a bit small for it to work for me.
Great idea and design.
