advice upon cost of blanks
"I am having a special on select grade pen blanks at present 50 for 60 dollars delivered I have burl and figured blanks I can cut dry blanks to order for you cheers shane "
This is me slowly acquiring wood'n'stuff. Tell me, is the above price ok for Tassy pen blanks?
I followed a link to http://www.aussieburls.com/ which is in Tassy so postage/freight ought not to cost too much, except he is at the other end of the island. By crikey he has some magnificent stuff. Not the place where i can easily say, "Oh, do you mind if i grab this bit of rubbish off the floor".
Maybe i ought to ask him what species he will be sending. Anything else i should ask?
It's been 25 years since i last bought any timber and then i would just wander down to 1 of 2 local saw mills, or go down to my own bit of bush, fell a tree and then snig it up to where i could work on it, sigh. Oh dear, nostalgia. I tell you what, Tas Board Mills used to periodically sell broken stacks really cheaply, stuff like myrtle that was regarded as crap, but which had the best figure, best everything really. Select grade is so lifeless - life is flawed not perfect. And i would buy a couple of boards on my way home - 12' 12"x2". It was lovely, deep rich rose into the palest of reds with lots of inclusions etc. Made some nice furniture from that. More sighs.

That sounds like a pretty good deal, especially if it's all burl & figured

well, he did say that he was having a special so that must mean for anyone who will buy, don't you think?

$1 per blank, delivered? Mate, that's a good price for mediocre blanks. For more select timbers, burl, etc. I'll happily pay up to $5- (and I've actually spent double-figure on what I consider exceptional blanks. )
