Default Advice Needed on Dismantling end cap

    IMG_4333 (Large).jpg

Need advice on dismantling this end cap so I can remove the finial to put in a custom finial, the Cap end was easy, but this end you cannot get to the inside without first removing the smaller end piece.???!
    Thanks for any advice, Amos

Amos ! what kit is it ? Roman harvest ,majestic etc, without looking at one it may just be a pressed on shell ? or glued maybe . Cheers ~ John

Amos, I would have liked to see that part this arvo. Do you want to keep the bling bit and replace the end part with something else?

Not too sure how this component is put, and held, together. Perhaps put the part that gets pressed in to the tube in to a collet, then turn down the diameter of the end part. Then turn a new cap from the material you want to use and press and glue that on the turned down part.

If you don't want to keep the bling bit, why not discard this part altogether and make a closed end barrel?

John , it is off a Majestic. Fred, too late for closed end barrel, spent ages getting the Cap barrel and main barrel turned and finished.! It would have been good to have shown you this arvo but at that stage I had presumed it was like the Emperors etc. I may have to leave it as is??!! Fred, I did the end cap as suggested and worked ok, except I have been all afternoon just doing these end caps! Amos

Amos. I had a close look and it seems pretty solid a ring is pressed on from the end that goes into the tube ,this retains the gold decorative ring. the main body does not go right through so no way to just knock the filial out, you could drill through the body from the inside with say a 3/16" drill till it just breaks through to what should be a void ,don't drill the existing finial ,that should allow a small pin punch to knock out the gold bit , ,if you are not worried about saving the original finial you could just drill a small hole and tap it ,screw a small bolt or screw into that hole till it bottoms on the inside section , a small amount of continued pressure should just pop the finial ,this I have to assume is a press fit into the cap ,in any case that may give you some ideas to work with cheers ~ John

Amos !That would have been my preferred and least destructive way to do it ,that way you can still use the inserts some other time for another project ,well done , cheers ~ John (perhaps as an insert into a very special box at some time )

Well done Amos, I thought you wanted to remove the whole end bit up to the bling band

You carefully avoided showing the bit you wanted to remove
