Need some advice on a fountain pen/roller ball pair
My wife loves purple. Anything purple. Clothes, drapes, car, jewellery, whatever. So I picked up a couple of purpleheart blanks from Len Smith a couple of weeks ago and I want to make her a fountain pen, roller ball set.
What I need is advice on the best kits to get for that. I don't want anything over the top in terms of patterns or filligrees etc, and I've had a look at the Churchill set which is really nice but Brett doesn't have any in stock right now.
Can anyone advise me on what they would use, Silver or gold, and what style. If anyone has some pics of purpleheart pens they've made it would help me too.
I've searched and have found many references but not a lot in that timber/kit combination.
Thanks in advance.

Hi John,
I reckon the RL101G and the RL102 are a good combination in a fountain pen and a roller ball. Nice size for a lady see it at Gary Pyes http://gpwoodturning.yahoostore.com...._id=1107136753

Nice Barry, thanks. The rollerball is out of stock but I'll send Gary an email, as I will with Brett from Addictive.
With Purpleheart I'm tempted to go silver. What's your view?

Hi John,
I would stick with froggie and go with a Baron rollerball, fountain pen kit in chrome. When I looked he had them in stock.
Also,if you want something that will hold its purple color, then a acrylic called Opalac has a very nice purple in its range.
Just a thought.
Regards terry

Also the Glamourz Purple is very attractive for the ladies, you would need to order them from Addictive and may not get them this side of Christmas. Amos

Thanks all. I'll go with the Baron. Might need a couple of kits so I can stuff the first one up and fix the mistakes on the real set.

John,
You could do worse than get the baron in the pigeon pair of fountain/roller ball. In the smoky platinum colours they come across an absolute treat. Gary Pye also sells the jr. gent in the matching pair and having tried both, can tell you that I will purchase both kits in the future as I am well pleased with both models.
Being a fountain pen aficionado, it would cost a great deal more money to end up with as good a fountain as you get in these $17-20 range pen kits.
I can see myself making these for years to come as everyone who sees them, especially in the wilder acrylics, instantly wants one.
Cheers,
Scott in Peakhurst.

Good idea to get extra. Purpleheart can be tough on turning tools and little bits can suddenly fly off in all directions. But it finishes nicely once turned. A bit of oil will bring out depth in the color, too.
ps .. instead of getting an additional kit, you might ask if they have just the spare tubes. No need to waste the
kit parts till you know the turning and finishing are up to your standards..
