Air Bubbles in Acrylic Pen Blanks
Hi everyone. Need your help. I'm relatively new to turning. I've made a few pieces but lately have enjoyed making a few Wood and Acrylic Pens as gifts for family. Just lately I heve found air bubbles in the Acrylic Blanks. These leave tiny holes in finished work and spoil the finished look. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fill in the holes before sanding and Micromesh polishing. Is a small amount of CA a good idea or will this spoil the finish. Appreciate your help

If you bought the acrylics I would send them back. To my opinion there should not be any air bubbles in bought acrylics.

If you keep them a small amount of thin ca should be fine for repairs ,just let it dry normally as any spray may make them turn white and spoil the effect worse than the original problem . Good luck with them ,it is the bane of all casteres to get air bubbles in work pieces depending on where they are ,or if they can be filled, is up to the individual

It happens sometimes, you get a blank like that, as John (gawdelpus) said, a thin coat of CA should do the trick. Good luck with it. All part of pen making frustration.
Reality is no background music.

I would probably contact your supplier to find out if there is a problem with the batch or somthing similar. It is always good to at least let your supplier know there is a problem so they can check it out. I must admit though with all the blanks I have sold or turned I have only ever had a couple that had air bubbles in them which is not a bad effort. Except of course the ones I have made myself unfortunatley there have been too many of them
Cheers Ian
