Amazing difference
I turned up these 2 Roman Harvest pens at the weekend. One had the tubes painted white, and the other was painted grey.
I was amazed at the different effect I got in the colour of the finished pen. It is not until you do something like this that you realise how transparent acrylic is. Glad I didn't leave the tubes the natural colour.
The blank is Pearl Opal on both. The colours stand out much better on the one that was painted grey.
Thanks for looking.

Well,
That is rather an eye opener…but now that you have shown it, it makes a lot of sense…think I will invest in some grey paint, or use the nickeled tubes and see if the results are as dramatic.
Thanks for posting that!

Thats a pretty dramatic difference. The darker one looks really good.
I have made a couple of pens with the Pearl Opal blank and always backpainted white, I have a short piece that I drilled for a Sierra the other day, I have backpainted it black. I havent glued the tube in yet, looking at yours has given me the urge to finish that pen so I can see what it looks like now.

Hi,
Nice pens and great photos showing how the tube colour can totally change the colour and the look of the pen.
I have done this myself on a couple of occasions with stronger colour's and again it is amazing to see the changes within the blank.
ironwood it will be very interesting to see what a blackened tube will do to the same Pearl Opal blank.
I'm also presuming these are the Pearl Opal blanks from Bruce?
Cheers
Tony.

Those Pens.
Hi Dallas,
Those Pens look Great.
So it seems you painted the tubes yourself, so what Paint would you have used.
Did the Glue affect the Paint in any way as it was pushed into the Blank.
Would you have bought those Blanks from Jim.Regards,
issatree.

AuS, the blank was from David but looks much the same as what Bruce has to offer.
Issatree, the paint was only a cheap white acrylic, and the grey was a primer. I use 5 minute Araldite to glue the tubes in and it doesn't effect the paint. Make sure to leave clearance between the tube and blank so that you don't have to force them in and scrape the paint off.Dallas
