I had time to reflect on a true Gentleman this afternoon. I never met Amos personally, but did speak to him on the phone a few times and exchanged quite a few PM's.
I got my Wedding pen out of its case, Amos did the engraving, the quality of the work obvious. He refused to take payment for his work on it, but I posted him a box of my pen blanks as thanks, I didn't tell him they were coming, when he got them in the mail, he rang me straight away, and told me he was going to hide them from his Wife, I had a bit of a chuckle, but never found out why he thought he had to hide them.
Rest in Peace Amos, you will always be remembered fondly.

Very sad news.
Known him for a long time and shared many a coffee and phone call talking pens and other stuff. I remember teaching him how to do a CA finish, selling him some pen blanks, then seeing him make them into pens only to sell them for 10 times what I could. I helped him sell most of his gear when he decided to leave Melbourne, only to help him restock some pen blanks up in Cairns when he had a short remission, including quite a few of his own blanks back from when John (Gawdelpus) passed.
It's sad when we become the older generation and many of our friends start to leave us.

Sad news indeed. I didn't have any personal dealings with him directly but did enjoy reading his posts on here. Do you remember Barry White? He was a retired fellow living at Kentucky just up the road from me. Barry came down to visit one day and told the story about when he first joined the Forum. I don't know all the story, but the gist of it was that Amos Pmed Barry for his home address. It turned out that Amos wanted to give Barry a Mini Lathe to kick off his Wood Turning Journey. Barry was flabbergasted that a total stranger was prepared to give him a lathe.
With this knowledge I am not surprised when people say he was a real Gentleman and very generous. We won't forget Amos for a long time. His generosity will be remembered by a lot of people whose lives he touched during his his time here.

My condolences to his family and friends.

I have been offline for some time and it is sad to come back to this news.
My belated condolences to Amos's family and close friends.

I gasped when I read the first post. I had many dealings with Amos over the years and helped him get tools from America that weren't available down under. We spoke on the telephone many times. I am very saddened by his passing. He was a generous and gracious gentleman.

Amos. A gentleman and friend. I visited Amos a few times when in Melbourne. He was an absolute gentleman to my family and went to the trouble of making them all their own engraved pen. I am so sorry to hear of his passing even tho I knew he was fighting cancer he still called me one night to see how I was. Please accept my apologise for being so late in knowing but I stood down from facebook for a period. My family and I send our condolences to his family.
Rest in Peace Amos.
I will add here that Amos was the first person ever to say Thankyou for my service as a Vietnam Veteran, and made me a lovely pen. I will never forget such a Gentleman.

Haven’t been here for a while as have had sick family members. I’m very saddened to hear this news, met Amos a few times. He did my engraving and I’ll never forget his generosity and beautiful spirit. One of the finest and I’ll truly miss him.
