Yup, turned down from 5/8" brass

As for pricing, what would you pay?

Not much if they're made from brass. Try a nice stainless steel - say a 316 or 316L and then you would be onto something. Just a suggestion.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Fair enough Al. I'm just an amateur when it comes to metal work and brass is nice and easy to work, plus I had it on hand.

Brass bushes will train you to stop sanding/turning them.

What Al said, brass is probably a bit soft for that purpose.

Perhaps have a go at some Bright Mild Steel rod, that would be a fair bit harder and they work OK. It is easy to get from your local steel supplier and a LOT cheaper than brass.
