Arizona Desert Ironwood WW
Hi all
Actually finished this one a couple of months ago but forgot to post the pics. Its a Arizona Desert Ironwood worthless wood blank made by Dai Sensei (Neil correct me if I'm wrong on the species) on a Roman Harvest RB.
This one almost didn't make it as I had a slight stuff up while gluing. I was doing a JR Victor at the same time, in another of Neil's blanks (macadamia gall IIRC) and got the JR Victor cap tube mixed up with the body tube from the Roman Harvest. Didn't pick it up until I went to trim the ends of the blanks. The blanks were too good to chuck so after some head scratching I came up wih a plan to recue them. I had some spare RH tubes so a body tube was mounted on a specially turned blank and sanded down until it would fit inside the JR Victor cap tube. About 15mm long sections of this were cut off and glues inside the body of the RH. To recue the JR I tries sandind down the inside of the tube to allow the bushes to be inserted. While this was ok for turning as soon as I pressed the components in they cracked the blank. There just wasn't enough strength left in it to hold.
But the RH survived the rescue attempt and I'm pretty happy with the result.
cheers

Great Save. I love Desert Ironwood, and I don't think I've ever seen it used in a WW blank. Very cool!

The pen looks great what ever it is
Probably DIW but bit hard to say, the colours look a bit weird, but so does the resin colour on my computer. What colour is the resin in real life?Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

You called it antique copper when I picked it up if that helps. The tube has been painted with a nail polish called " blushed" which is a light peach / apricot colour. For some reason (probably different final thickness) the cap and the body have turned out slightly different colours with the cap being more coppery than the body.
