Blackwood and Spalted Maple
Hi Folks
These two are straight off the lathe. First is a Roman harvest in cross cut blackwood. This one is for a repeat customer, who ordered the same combo as an xmas pressie for one son. This one is a birthday pressie for the other son. The kit is from Timberbits and the timber came from Mapleman.
Next up is one of David's Lucinda kits dressed in spalted maple that I got in the Australia Day swap last year. This is the first time I've used one of these kits and I was pretty pleased until I put the refil in and saw it doesn't retract all the way back. Not sure what I've done wrong there . Anyone else had the same problem? Other than that I'm real happy with how the blank came up. Got a couple more of those in the draw to have a bit more of a play.
Finish is the usual CA, Brasso, hut wax.
cheers

Nice set there always good to get repeat business as well With the lucinda and similar kits ( EB etc) the length of the body is critical to where the refill extends and retracts, so it's very important not to overtrim them, to check if thats the problem simply take a new tube and test it against the finished product ,any difference should be easily seen that way cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Looking good
If you have over trimmed, you can shorten your refill by filling down the plastic end tip at the top. You can file down to remove the little round knob, even the teeth part, as the kits don't use them. Only problem is then you have to tell the buyer to do the same with future refillsNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Not sure Dabbler. Forgot to order one when I ordered the kits so went scrounging through my bits drawer and found it. I don't remember ever ordering one like it so I suspect it's one I received a swap pen in in the past and have saved it once I transfered the pen into my private collection, so it's more than likely from The USA somewhere.
I don't have another tube to compare against to see if I over trimmed (nice excuse to buy some more I guess) and I'm normally pretty careful when trimming. Would be somewhat embarrassing to have to tell a customer to keep trimming the refills so may just have to keep this one for myself.
EDIT: Just remembered I have an EB sitting in my pocket so compared the two. The timber section on the Lucinda is about 2.5mm shorter than on the EB. Obviously I got a bit carried away while trimming. Bugger!!!!! Oh well SWMBO was eyeing it off last night anyway so it may just have to go to her (after the refill get a bit of a haircut)I don't suffer from stress, but I have been told I'm a carrier

Haha,
The wife always gets my mishap pens aswell, funny thing is I don't fix them, i just tell her to except the faults like she does with me
I make sure she has a couple of real nice ones in her bag though for when she is out to show off in the hope of drumming up some interest

I really like the spalted Maple.
I have had one not fully retracting into the pen and found that the refill was a bit longer then the other pens in the same Seirra kits.

Hey WH I s'pose you could just save up the rejects and use them for pen swaps Oh yeah NOT this year though eh
I got some of those cases last year while in Canada from William Woodwrite , took a swag of pens across for pressies and got the cases there.

Any chance of making some 'spacers' from some pickguard to make the blank longer?
Very cool materials!! Congrats on the repeat customer, that speaks volumes!!!!!
