First attempt at Pen Turning
HI Guys,
After reading most of your post and seeing all the great work you produce I thought I'd put a photo up of my first attempt of pen turning that I did today.
This is a piece of Huon pine I had on my bench, I thought would be good to start with something a bit on the hard side to get a better finish off the tool.
Finish is just a mix of bees wax.
Bryce

Fine job on a basic first pen.
But, that bees wax is going to look pretty awful after some handling.
Harder finishes are preferred.

Hey Bryce,
Nice job, like the others have said, bees wax isn't a prefered finish for pens, have a look at the tutorials on CA/Blo finishes, its quick and everlasting.
You are now hooked.

thanks guys,
Yeah I know the bees wax was not the best choice, but is not going to be used, is sitting on my wifes shelf as my first effort, HAHAH.
I am reading up on the CA/Blo finishes as they seem to be the most popular.
Will keep you posted with any new works and some questions.
Thanks
bryce

Nice lines , elegant looking pen ,its a bit of a temptation to make bulges and other variations with early pen-making ,we all have preferences and there are really no rules as to what you produce ,but time tested preferences will lead the way hehe, cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!
