    Default Now Available at grizzly.com

Many years ago a firm imported these auxilliary jaws finally had a sell out not enough interest shown.

My mate Don in Nth America recently bought a set of them (they sell singly why?) they are cast iron or steel jaws with a full horizontal double Vee and three vertical double Vees for mine the most usefull way to use an X Y vice for blank drilling.

grizzly.com has them for sale as an extra for their X Y axis dill vice in their catalogue.

Two things Don sent me pics of his newly aquired I dont know how to transpose so old pics of mine I use the horizontal jaws when hand reaming with a step drill.

    Kind regards Peter.

Very interesting Peter. I have something similar for my simple vice, but not for my two way vice.

I found them here: G1065 Prismatic Jaw I have sent them an email to see if they send to Aus as it is not on their delivery options.

Try these from Hare & Forbes. https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Plastic-Soft-Jaws

I have been using the plastic ones for drilling pen blanks for years.

    Ross,

Those are winners and the price is right, I am always modifying all sorts of pieces of machinery that require holding to dismantle and replace or use for something else so the soft jaws appeal to me right now. Hare and Forbes are like grasshoppers there are many direct and indirect dealers, we have one such here.

Thank you for your help, I am sure Neil will be as impressed as I am. Such a choice.

    KInd regards Peter.

This looks like a great bit of kit and if I could quickly vary the speed of my drill it would be the best option.

I had a lot of trouble drilling acrylic blanks until shown how to drill them on the lathe. I am lucky enough to have a Vicmac 150 lathe with variable speed and I use a VM 100 chuck fitted with those long jaws. The long jaws support the blank and I have not "lost" an acrylic blank since using this method. I just take it slow and constantly clear and cool the drill bit. Using an old tooth brush to clear the swarf is a good idea as fingers can get burnt.

    Thumbs up

I've long been meaning to get a cross slide vise for my drill press. This has been a good reminder!.
