    Default Back into it

Finally got to finish some that I started a while ago (before new kitchen got me sidetracked). Pen kits are Partitioned and finish is spray on lacquer. In order, from top, they are:
Tiger Myrtle, Rose Sheoak, Acrylic (shock, horror! -apologies to the timber lovers), Macadamia, Mackay Cedar
C&C always welcome - still learning.

    Cheers, Gary

Great work Gary - I don't think I've seen that kit before....looks good.

I'm trying to kick-start myself back in the shed, and now daylight savings has kicked in I hope it'll be easier....

Did you put lacquer on the acrylic or just sand/polish it?

Thanks, Gabriel. The acrylic was just finished with micromesh and car polish. As you guessed, only the timber ones were finished with the spray can!
The Partitioned pen kit is unusual, but makes for a pretty heavy pen (so my Managing Director doesn't like them ). The kits are from Rhizeng (Pen Kits Mall) - their prices are good but the freight brings the kits up to local prices unless you buy large quantities.

Yeah, I've been looking to place an order with them, but as you say - gotta make it worthwhile ....
Looking at about 80 kits but then have to get a blessing from the minister for finance

It’s good to see you back at the lathe Gary. Some nice looking timbers there mate.
I haven’t seen that kit before either, first impressions are, I prefer the look of the Streamline over this kit.
I am assuming it’s built on the “Slimline “ chassis ? It looks like it.

I hear you with the timber V resin pens, I have a love for making timber pens, but when I was selling pens, the demand for the colourful resins far outstripped the demand for the timber ones. I felt a lot better selling some people the resins as well, it’s much more stable for a pen that gets mistreated, left in a hot car for example. I have seen a few timber pens crack from the extremes of temperatures.

I am hoping to get the chance to turn a pen of some sort on theses days, I just got a phone call that I have a load of timber arriving tomorrow, so that could throw a spanner in the works. Will see how I go .

Must be the season I revved up the bandsaw today and cut up a mix of timbers, some related to one another,my new step drill is being ground in Melbourne, some systems raring to go. I thought the pens made a fine showing thanks for sharing mate.

Thanks,Brad and Peter. for your comments. Brad, you're right - it's the Slimline style with the same diameter tubes and same mechanism etc. The timbers were from Old Croc and a top bloke from up Mackay way that gave me a box full of blanks of timbers I had never seen before. Jeez there's some nice blokes on this forum whether it be timber, advice or encouragement. Thanks to all - your blood's worth bottling

    Cheers, Gary

Very nice Gary ... always enjoy seeing wood in pens.
The "slimline" is not my favourite style becauase its so "straight" & doesnt show enough wood but you have done them all justice. Thanks for sharing mate
